Special Days 2020 to 2021

Resilient Rhythms

Louise is a Music Therapist and she has been working in the field for 20 years. She is trained to use music making to address social, developmental, behavioural and emotional needs.  Louise creates a fun environment wherein the children can develop a host of skills and improve their self-awareness and self-esteem without even realising it!

On Monday 14th June, we were privileged to have Louise visit our school.  Through music, she helped us to recognise our emotions and develop methods to manage overwhelming feelings.   Thank you to Louise for her commitment and enthusiasm; we had a very enjoyable morning!

Primary 7 Leavers’ Trip

On Friday 4th June 2021, the Primary 7 children enjoyed a trip to The Jungle NI in Moneymore.  We finished off a fun-filled day with a McDonalds for lunch.  The children had a fantastic time celebrating their final year of primary school - I think the pictures say it all!

'Pounds for Playground' Fundraiser

Following what has been a difficult year as a result of the pandemic, we wanted to give something back to our pupils.  In line with Children's Mental Health Awareness Day on 9th May 2021, we hosted a fundraising event in school over the course of one week. During the week, our goal was to complete 1000 minutes of exercise which equated to 250 minutes per classroom.  With the support of our local community, we hope to have raised enough money to create a more exciting and enriching playground area for our children.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the parents, family and friends who contributed to our 'Pounds for Playground' sponsored event.  You have raised a whopping £2900 and we, as a staff, are blown away by your generosity!  The children will benefit immensely from new outdoor equipment.

P.A.W.S

(Positivity Awareness and Well-being in Schools)

Tuesday 8th December

We were delighted to welcome Sharon and Henry Wee Wheels, along with Linda and Toffee into school today.

Sharon and Linda run a programme called P.A.W.S. (Positivity Awareness and Well – Being in Schools).

They were in school today to discuss and explore a six-week programme starting in January 2021.  P.A.W.S aims to deliver an educational programme using the dogs to enhance teaching and learning experiences for all children.

Henry Wee Wheels is a rescue dog from China who has been trained as a therapy dog.  For the last 2 years Sharon has been visiting schools delivering programmes at various levels using Henry’s story as a catalyst for PDMU lessons.

Linda is a fully qualified Primary school teacher, and therapy dog, Toffee, has been used in schools to enhance Literacy through ‘Toffee Tales’ stories and activities.

We were very encouraged by how positively the children responded today, and look forward to building a strong working relationship with both the dogs and their owners.

Remembrance Day

On Wednesday 11th November 2020, the P6/7 children walked to the local War Memorial in Dervock to carry out a short act of remembrance in memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving in the armed forces.   Thank you to Paul and Amy for laying the wreath on behalf of WPMPS.

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
